Apoel 1 - 9 VFFC

Dark skies made the crowd of 3433 at Apoel 1926 Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and . A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Apoel. Lineup: Salkan - Eystathiou, Nestoros, Özgül, Arafat - Ktoridis, Lykourgou, Makariou, Koronidis - Akkidis, Kouradakis.

VFFC decided to use a 4-3-3 set up. Starters: Carmona - Dias, Lorenzi, Oliveri, Braida - Senhorinha, Skøtt Frandsen, Fahem - Pilão, Sørensen, Krems.

Apoel saw most attack opportunities on the wings, taking advantage of their formidable level with that tactic. The terraces were silenced after 23 minutes when VFFC's Tor Sørensen put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. The VFFC players could smell victory in the air. Mauro Lorenzi wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for Duarte de Araújo after 25 minutes. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Michalis Lykourgou got himself booked. The manager of Apoel was not happy. Federico Armando Osv Braida received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 28 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The VFFC fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. Monoem Fahem wanted to play on, but the VFFC coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 40 minutes into the game by Miguel Lucas Antunes. With 40 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed Tor Sørensen of VFFC to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 3. After 41 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Tor Sørensen who increased VFFC's lead to 0 - 4. That made three goals for Tor Sørensen and he was marked down for the hat trick. The players of VFFC now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Some fine movement on the left led to a VFFC goal after 43 minutes, making it 0 - 5. Duarte de Araújo was noted down as the scorer. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Spiros Makariou from Apoel a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 43 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 44 minutes into the match Apoel's Stelios Koronidis head butted an opponent nastily, and so the referee sent him off immediately. Halftime score was 0 - 5. Possession in this half belonged to VFFC, who controlled the ball 65 percent of the time.

Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Apoel's Baykal Özgül was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes. Pampos Pantazis was given a chance to change things around. After 46 minutes, VFFC felt secure enough to make a tactical change. Miguel Lucas Antunes and Federico Armando Osv Braida assumed each others positions on the field. The visitors' Guilherme Manuel Senhorinha took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 57 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for VFFC. After 60 minutes, Apoel switched Ploutarchos Ktoridis with Saldıray Temren, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. The coach of VFFC was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 65 minutes, Anselmo Carmo Rodrigues came on for Tor Sørensen. As the captain was no longer on the pitch, Mathies Krems took over the role of being the VFFC captain. After 66 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Miguel Lucas Antunes a chance to increase the lead for VFFC, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 7. After 72 minutes, Anselmo Carmo Rodrigues made a complete fool of himself when he presented the ball to the feet of Saldıray Temren who smashed it into the open goal for Apoel. 1 - 7. The home crowd cheered when, after 74 minutes, Miguel Lucas Antunes's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. A drive down the left side allowed Filippo Oliveri to get in close and score another goal for VFFC after 77 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 8. The crowd groaned when Nikolakis Eystathiou, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to reduce the deficit for Apoel. The home crowd was not impressed when Fernando Gaspar Pilão came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 79 minutes. VFFC were now up 1 - 9. VFFC claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 67 percent.

Most important Apoel player was Evgenios Akkidis. Fatih Salkan turned in a dismal performance, however. Mathies Krems performed admirably for VFFC. However, Sabino Carmona made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 9.
