Inter 0 - 5 Charrúa

The crowd of 2365 turning up at SkyDeck Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Patrick Jahier was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Manuel Bonetti and Oldřich Kotásek. Inter had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Starters: Holvey - Nording, Frazer, Pears - Lansing, Sardena, Shames, Ambrose - Woodbyrne, Studnicki-Gisbert, Collins.

Charrúa decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. Lineup: Sánchez-Bedoya - Hozta, Broca - Frances, Wandel, Vahemets, Dalea, Aviño - Judith, Torres, Garayo.

20 minutes into the game, Salvador Frances was a hair's breadth away from giving Charrúa the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by Bernie Holvey saved the home team that time. A counterattack by Inter after 21 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but Luke Frazer, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off. A well placed corner kick from Pavel Dalea was followed by Víctor Torres's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Charrúa, the score now 0 - 1. Laurits Wandel of Charrúa was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. The rain made it hard for players like Antony Shames to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day. Some fine movement on the left led to a Charrúa goal after 39 minutes, making it 0 - 2. Anisio Aviño was noted down as the scorer. A misunderstanding between the visitors' keeper Ricardo Sánchez-Bedoya and his left defence could have resulted in a goal for Inter, but Michael Ambrose's finish was way too lame. After 42 minutes, Charrúa were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. Anisio Aviño did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. César Garayo, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. César Garayo came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over Bernie Holvey but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. Inter had to make a substitution after 44 minutes. Adam Collins limped off the field and was replaced by Kris Mandryk. 0 - 2 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Charrúa, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

The visitors' Víctor Torres took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 49 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Charrúa. An indecisive keeper looked on as a free kick by Charrúa's Pavel Dalea put the visitors up 0 - 4 after 54 minutes. Víctor Torres was, after 65 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper Bernie Holvey made the save. With 66 minutes played, Casiopeo Hozta nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. The home keeper was stunned 68 minutes into the match when he misjudged the free kick by Pavel Dalea and dived in the wrong direction. The visitors increased the lead to 0 - 5. After 80 minutes, Inter switched Joshua Lansing with Chester Houghton, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. Charrúa enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.

Billy Woodbyrne performed admirably for Inter. Bernie Holvey turned in a dismal performance, however. Charrúa's best player was César Garayo. On the other hand, Florian Judith's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 5.
