The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 4549 had shown up at Nana Mouskouri Stadium for the match. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ignacy Grzegoszczyk and Mårten Björkerberg. Hull-City had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. The following players took the field: Audino - Damay, Samuelsen - Zdanowicz, Vermande, Cruz, Mellem, Maslin - Maurice, Kaltenböck, van Gessel.

F.C.C.G. started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. They fielded: Siciarek - Feliciano, Reynoso - Mace, De Cock, Domínguez, Epstein, Bahrgehr - Vincent, Acosta, Veselovas.

It was an obvious ambition of F.C.C.G. to use their brilliant ability at attacking on the flanks. After 2 minutes, speedy Sébastien 'Saint' Vincent dashed past his marker, making plenty of room for the second wave of attack. However, Erdvilas Veselovas failed to score. Erdvilas Veselovas would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Jayant Datta entered the game for F.C.C.G. as the match clock showed 5 minutes. With 15 minutes played, Hull-City put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to Florian Kaltenböck, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. The players of Hull-City now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. 21 minutes into the match, the speedy Sébastien 'Saint' Vincent easily outpaced Peter Samuelsen, chipped the keeper and made the score 2 - 1. Coming from the right, Jonathan Damay almost managed to score another goal for Hull-City, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper. After 25 minutes, the defensive line of F.C.C.G. created a counterattack through the middle that gave Edgar Domínguez a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. Things were deteriorating for the away team as Hull-City scored another to make it 3 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for Sylvain Maurice after 32 minutes. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Hull-City to 4 - 1 as Koos Vermande finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. 4 - 1 was the score after the first half. Cheers filled the stadium as Manuel Cruz broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 5 - 1 to Hull-City. Watze van Gessel increased Hull-City's lead to 6 - 1 with a penalty spot cannonball. The coach of Hull-City was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 67 minutes, Pierre Torres came on for Johnny Mellem. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Sylvain Maurice squirmed through their central defence after 74 minutes, increasing the lead to 7 - 1. That made three goals for Sylvain Maurice and he was marked down for the hat trick. Hull-City solidified their lead at the 79 minute mark, as Sylvain Maurice dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 8 - 1. F.C.C.G.'s Cay Bahrgehr was shown a yellow card after 83 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Hull-City's Watze van Gessel had an excellent opportunity after 86 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! Hull-City enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 74 percent of possession.

Most important Hull-City player was Watze van Gessel. Jonathan Damay turned in a dismal performance, however. F.C.C.G.'s top performer was clearly Sébastien 'Saint' Vincent. Alcides Feliciano on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 8 - 1.
