Villa 4 - 1 GRV

It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 1087 that came out to Full Arena. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and . The match took place on neutral ground. Villa tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Leach - Mörnen, Kastrup, Rnić - Mirčetić, Gault, Obradović, Luttmer, Kontor - Kountourantzis, Coupet.

A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for GRV. Starters: Mudrinić - Záboj, Banković, Tesch, Antolínez - Urano, Castellarnau, Walsrode - Serantes, Szczepaniec, Bunin.

For their match strategy, GRV had decided to use their excellent ability to counter-attack whenever possible. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Adriano Castellarnau from GRV a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 11 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! In a fantastic display of determination, Villa's Aleksandar Rnić forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down. Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 19 minutes, Villa did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker, Alf Luttmer was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 0. GRV's Iván Antolínez got himself booked for a foul. Villa's Zoran Obradović was shown a yellow card after 29 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Villa's Roland Mörnen saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 30 minutes. The referee showed GRV's Piotr Szczepaniec the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. With 37 minutes played, Stepan Bunin came in from the right and could have evened the score, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by GRV. A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 42 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called GRV's Zdislav Záboj to one side and produced a red card for the player. Villa put themselves up 2 - 0 when Veroljub Mirčetić broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. Villa managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when Nino Kountourantzis cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Villa lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. 3 - 0 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Villa, with 75 percent of the ball.

57 minutes in, GRV's Feliciano Serantes received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Lionel Gault's curling free kick almost found the goal for Villa, but the visitors' keeper somehow managed to get ahold of it. GRV almost scored after a counterattack 72 minutes into the match, but Stepan Bunin took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net. The intense heat forced Darko Tesch into making some errors because he couldn't seem to keep up with the others. Piotr Szczepaniec's speed was clear to see after 83 minutes, as he darted down the wing and released Stepan Bunin who placed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 3 - 1. Villa increased the lead as Roland Mörnen struck to make the score 4 - 1 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. 89 minutes in, GRV's Darko Tesch received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Villa claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 75 percent.

Villa's top performer was clearly Alf Luttmer. Aleksandar Rnić was a disappointment, however. The most dominating GRV player was without a doubt Piotr Szczepaniec. However, Darko Tesch made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 1.
